DESCRIPTION:Starting in April\, Touchpoints in Libraries focuses on understanding a child’s developmental process from birth to 6 years of age. It also focuses on connecting with families through strengths-based interactions. \nLearn More\nThe Brazelton Touchpoints Center course consists of eight modules and is carried out with a cohort of library staff from around the country. Each module takes two-and-a-half hours to complete. The modules include a 90-minute live session and 60 minutes of online work. \nModules are followed by six monthly one-hour virtual reflective practice sessions. Attendance is required at all live sessions\, which are not recorded. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate. \nWhat You Will Learn\nParticipants will learn to view children’s development as a process characterized by periods of change that affect the family system. Additionally\, there will be opportunities to connect with and support families in daily library interactions. \nThe course will teach participants to use strengths-based and culturally responsive strategies to connect with families and workers. DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and ELRC Region 5 are partnering to provide First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, and automated external defibrillator (AED) training. \nThis single course emphasizes hands-on learning and provides life-saving skills in alliance with The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. \nCertification will be issued upon successful completion of the course. This certification is valid for two years. \nPLEASE NOTE: Successful course completion requires full participation in classroom and skill sessions\, as well as successful performance in skill and knowledge evaluations. \nParticipants will be conducting strenuous activities\, such as performing CPR on the floor. If you have a medical condition or disability that will prevent you from taking part in the skills practice sessions\, please let your instructor know so that accommodations can be made for the practice portion. DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and ELRC Region 5 are partnering to provide a hybrid First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, and automated external defibrillator (AED) training to early childhood professionals. \nAbout the Course\nThis PQAS-certified blended learning course consists of an in-person class and online coursework. The course provides life-saving skills in alliance with The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. \nThe online coursework must be completed prior to the in-person class. Whether one is a family-facing provider\, researcher\, advocate\, policymaker\, or educator\, the series will empower participants to navigate sensitive topics with confidence. \nMore Details\nThe workshop costs $105 per seat. DESCRIPTION:The University of Pittsburgh’s Theiss Training Center for Trauma and Early Childhood Mental Health is hosting a three-part online course on trauma in August and September. \nLearn More\nThe three-part virtual training series on Trauma Proficient Practiced is designed specifically for professionals working with young children and their families in early childhood settings. The series will be offered periodically; each can be taken as a standalone course or participants can attend all three. \nTeri Pentz\, MS\, LPC\, NCC\, Infant Mental Health Mentor (Clinical)\, will lead all three courses. \nMicrosoft Teams links will be shared with participants after they register for the courses. \nBecoming Trauma Aware\nThe first course discusses how the path to becoming trauma proficient begins with a basic understanding of trauma and what young children’s reaction to trauma can look like in the context of their play and behaviors. The session will lay the foundation for understanding trauma by developing an awareness of what it is and how it reveals itself. Attendees will discuss the basic definition and different types of trauma and trauma reactions. Looking at a case study\, the group will analyze trauma and relationship information that may indicate early traumatic experiences impacting the child’s current psychological functioning.
