An ethnographer\, Desmond shares the intimate vicissitudes of his subject/friends as they struggle to make ends meet while negotiating a bewildering system of slumlords\, public agencies\, law enforcement\, and courts\, a system that seems almost designed to reinforce a downward spiral of poverty. SUMMARY:Public Hearing on Chapter 49: Certification of Professional Personnel
DESCRIPTION:The Pennsylvania State Board of Education will conduct a public hearing in Homestead to receive input from interested parties on draft proposed amendments to Chapter 49 (Certification of Professional Personnel). Registrations must be submitted by noon on June 11\, 2019. \nTestimony Limitations\nTestimony is limited to no more than 5 minutes\, and participants will be assigned a time slot on a first come\, first served basis when they register. If a hearing site reaches capacity\, the Board will place interested participants on a waiting list and will notify members of the waiting list if space becomes available. Each hearing will conclude after the last scheduled witness testifies. \nIn order to accommodate as many perspectives as possible\, individuals representing an organization are limited to a one-time slot and that organization may only present testimony at one hearing location. SUMMARY:Empowering and Strengthening Relationships Across Early Childhood Settings
DESCRIPTION:Join the Harvard Graduate School of Education on June 27 and 28 for “Empowering and Strengthening Relationships Across Early Childhood Settings\,” a new program intended for early education leaders\, principals\, program directors\, administrators\, and teacher leaders. \nAbout\n“Empowering and Strengthening Relationships Across Early Childhood Settings” is offered as part of the Zaentz Professional Learning Academy\, featuring the tools and resources of “Simple Interactions\,” a collaboration between the Fred Rogers Center on Early Learning and Children’s Media and the Zaentz Initiative. \nLed by Faculty Co-Chairs Junlei Li\, Nonie Lesaux\, and Stephanie Jones\, this two-day on-campus institute offers participants a combination of practice-based learning experiences\, research and theoretical insights from both within and beyond the early childhood field\, and community-supported problem-solving. \nProgram Objectives\nParticipants will: \n\n\n\nDefine what is a developmental human interaction and how such interactions contribute to the full range of child development goals from language to social and emotional learning;\n\n\n\n\nEnvision and plan how to support the development of young children’s helpers and empower adult-child human interactions; and\n\n\n\n\nEngage in practice-based conversations for professional learning settings and re-examine early childhood systems with a relationship-focused lens.\n\n\n\nProgram Costs\nThe program will be hosted on campus and will require a $199 tuition payment per person. Special rates are available for Program\, Community\, District\, and Network Teams. Participants will receive a certificate of participation and a letter confirming clock hours of instruction. \nTuition includes all instructional materials\, however\, participants will have to pay for associated travel expenses and hotel accommodations.
