DESCRIPTION:Join Pitt SHRS Wellness Pavilion and Homewood CEC for free virtual workshops that will help prepare participants to address and prevent the traumatic impact of adversities in childhood. \nAbout\nResearch shows that 67 percent of the population has experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience. DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in exploring how child assessments can better capture the assets and competencies of children of color? Join Research Professor Iheoma Iruka on April 15 for “Leaning into Culturally-grounded Anti-bias Child Assessment.” \nAbout\nChild assessment plays a critical role in supporting children’s school readiness by providing early childhood educators with important information about children’s assets\, growth\, and potential\, as well as areas needing strengthening. For assessment to meet the standards of developmentally appropriate practice\, it must be authentic and strengths-based. That is\, children should be assessed in the context of their daily routines and activities as they engage with familiar materials through an asset frame. \nUnfortunately\, there is evidence that children of color\, especially Black children\, are often assessed as less cognitively\, linguistically\, and socially astute than their peers. There is a need to transform child assessments as an equity tool to support children in a racially-affirming and holistic way. DESCRIPTION:Join the Black Mamas Matter Alliance from April 16 – 17 for their “Black Maternal Health Virtual Conference.” \nAbout\nFounded and led by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA)\, the Black Maternal Health Conference (BMHC) is the premiere assembly for Black women\, clinicians\, professionals\, advocates\, and other stakeholders working to improve maternal health using birth justice\, reproductive justice\, and human rights frameworks. After registering\, you will receive a training link via email to complete the required CPR and First Aid online videos. This portion will take approximately four hours to complete. While participants can complete the training videos at their own pace\, all online training must be complete at least two days before attending the in-person training session. \nIf a participant does not complete the online training\, they cannot participate in the in-person session. \nPart Two: In-Person Training\nPart Two includes a one-hour in-person skills training session where participants will demonstrate CPR and First Aid skills from the online training. The instructor will walk participants through the session and answer questions. Hands-on fire extinguisher training and a Fire Safety PowerPoint presentation will be available to participants that added Fire Safety to their registration. \nTimeslots will be used to limit the number of participants. A limited number of participants will be assigned to each mannequin. Check out Pennsylvania Head Start Association’s virtual course\, “Mental Health First Aid.” \nAbout\nLike CPR training helps a non-medical professional assist an individual following a heart attack\, Mental Health First Aid helps an individual who does not have clinical training assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis. In both situations\, the goal is to help support an individual until appropriate professional help arrives. \nParticipants will receive a digital manual and participant guide. Upon satisfactory completion of the course\, participants will be certified Mental Health First Aiders for three years. \nRegistration\nThis training will be hosted virtually on Zoom.
