DESCRIPTION:Home-based educators will gather in Harrisburg on April 30 to celebrate Family Child Care Awareness Day. \nThe event will recognize the impact of home-based child care programs. It will include a visibility event\, during which attendees will be able to showcase to legislators and the public what it means to be a home-based child educator. \nParticipants can showcase their programs through posters that highlight the learning that occurs in their program or recognize the families they serve and include their testimonies. Those interested in participating should register by April 10. \nThe event will be held at the state capitol\, located at 501 N. 3rd Street in Harrisburg. \nFor those who cannot attend the April 30 event\, Trying Together is leading capitol caravans from Pittsburgh on May 7\, May 22\, June 4\, and June 25.

The focus of this conversation is the connections between racism- and sexism-inducted inequities in residential evictions and adverse birth and maternal outcomes. \nLearn More\nDr. Shawnita Sealy-Jefferson – founder\, director\, and principal investigator of the Social Epidemiology to Eliminate Disparities (SEED) Lab – will lead the discussion. She will discuss how her participatory approach to research is mobilizing community power\, wisdom\, and radical truth-telling of Black women\, families\, and communities. \nSealy-Jefferson is a social epidemiologist whose primary research seeks action to combat manifestations of structural racism that limit the human rights of Black communities. \nBrazelton Touchpoints Center’s Learning to Listen: Conversations for Change series is aimed at anyone who cares for and about babies and children as well as the families\, professionals\, and communities that protect and nurture them. SUMMARY:Remake Learning Days Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Remake Learning Days Festival will offer more than 350 events during its nearly three-week run in May. \nLearn More\nFrom May 2 to 22\, families can take part in events and celebrate learning during the festival’s run. Activities include building a robot\, coding an art spinner\, directing a film\, doing scientific work\, exploring the outdoors\, making music\, printing inventions with a 3-D printer\, and more. \nThe festival will include in-person and virtual events hosted by schools\, museums\, libraries\, after-school organizations\, child care centers\, and tech companies. \nActivities are offered for children ages two to 17 as well as for adults. There are a number of free activities as well as others that range from $1 to $50. \n“Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster” will be performed at the festival. SUMMARY:Touchpoints in Libraries: Understanding Child Development and Engaging Families
DESCRIPTION:Starting in April\, Touchpoints in Libraries focuses on understanding a child’s developmental process from birth to 6 years of age. It also focuses on connecting with families through strengths-based interactions. \nLearn More\nThe Brazelton Touchpoints Center course consists of eight modules and is carried out with a cohort of library staff from around the country. Each module takes two-and-a-half hours to complete. The modules include a 90-minute live session and 60 minutes of online work. \nModules are followed by six monthly one-hour virtual reflective practice sessions. Attendance is required at all live sessions\, which are not recorded. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate. \nWhat You Will Learn\nParticipants will learn to view children’s development as a process characterized by periods of change that affect the family system. Additionally\, there will be opportunities to connect with and support families in daily library interactions. \nThe course will teach participants to use strengths-based and culturally responsive strategies to connect with families and workers. Lastly\, participants will learn to create a shared language among staff about engaging families and caregivers. \nMore Details\nEach module will contain a minimum of 10 participants. It is aimed at professionals who work in library settings and with young children and their families. The cost for the program is $795. \nLive sessions are from 2-3:30 p.m. ET and 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. PT on Thursdays\, starting April 4. The plot thickens when the pair meets Kerry and Frankenthaler\, an even scaredier-cat and her monster friend. \n“Leonardo!” uses hundreds of illustrated paper puppets\, book pages\, two-dimensional props\, furry monster puppets\, and songs to bring Willems’ books to life. Manual Cinema wanted to recreate the experience of holding one of the books\, which are big\, bold\, colorful\, and full of visual rhythm.
