SUMMARY:PACCA: Child Care and Adult Food Program Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:The Pennsylvania Child Care Association and the state Education Department’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) are holding a roundtable on how child care and afterschool providers can serve free meals through CACFP. \nLearn More\nCACFP provides reimbursement for meals served to enrolled participants in non-residential child or adult care facilities. The intent of the program is to improve the diets of children and adults and to develop healthy eating habits through the service of nutritious meals and the provision of nutrition education activities. \nDuring the roundtable\, participants will learn how to serve free meals through CACFP. They will also learn about the organization\, how to get started\, how to apply\, eligibility\, and basic meal reimbursements. \nThe roundtable will be held in a Zoom meeting from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday\, Sept. 17. SUMMARY:American Red Cross First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, CPR\, and AED Training
DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and ELRC Region 5 are partnering to provide a hybrid First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, and automated external defibrillator (AED) training to early childhood professionals. \nAbout the Course\nThis PQAS-certified blended learning course consists of an in-person class and online coursework.  The course provides life-saving skills in alliance with The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. \nThe online coursework must be completed prior to the in-person class. Access to the online coursework will be provided via email upon completion of registration. Allow yourself three to four hours to complete. We advise completing the online coursework at least 48 hours prior to your in-person course. You will need to provide proof of completion by providing a copy of your completion email either printed or on your mobile device of class in order to participate in the in-person class portion of the training. \nCertification will be issued upon successful completion of the course. This certification is valid for two years. \nSession Details\nThe course will take place on: \n\nMonday\, September 16 | 3 – 6 p.m.\nTrying Together – Conference Room\n5604 Solway Street\nPittsburgh\, PA 15217\n\nThe cost is $38. Registration will close at 3 p.m. on Friday\, Sept. 13. \nPLEASE NOTE: Successful course completion requires full participation in classroom and skill sessions\, as well as successful performance in skill and knowledge evaluations.  \nParticipants will be conducting strenuous activities\, such as performing CPR on the floor. DESCRIPTION:The Brazelton Touchpoints Center is hosting a workshop in September that explores how caregivers and early education professionals can understand the unique experiences and developmental processes of children. \nLearn More\nInside a Child’s Mind will explore how\, from birth\, children bring their own unique contributions to their development. Children’s temperaments\, individuals competencies\, and cultures all influence a child’s experience of themselves in their development process as well as their experience of the people and world around them. This workshop will explore children’s perspectives on their own developmental process from birth through preschool. \nWho Should Apply\nThe course is aimed at professionals who work with young children. This includes early care educators\, family child care providers\, mental health consultants\, home visitors\, pediatricians\, and early interventionists. \nMore Details\nCertificates will be provided at the end of the six-hour course. The cost of the course\, which begins Sept. 6\, is $140 per seat. Each 90-minute live\, interactive workshop will take place at 1 p.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT on Thursdays. DESCRIPTION:The Frick Environmental Center will host its Freedom Harvest event to celebrate freedom\, history\, and the harvest season in September. \nLearn More\nThe event\, which is part of the Regional Asset District’s RAD Days\, is a free\, all-ages\, family-friendly event highlighting the history and significance of the From Slavery to Freedom Garden at the Frick. The garden showcases plants and vegetables that freedom seekers used for nourishment and medicine on their journey north as they fled slavery. \nThe event is held in September to mark International Underground Railroad Month\, commemorating the escapes of such iconic figures as Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass. \nFreedom Harvest will be held on Saturday\, Sept. 7. Attendees can take part in a garden tour and tasting at noon. Registration will be available soon. \nFrom 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.\, attendees can take part in nature-based activities. DESCRIPTION:Women for a Health Environment are hosting a professional development session – Green Cleaning – in early September at the Carnegie Library of Hazelwood. \nLearn More\nCleaning\, sanitizing\, and disinfecting products can cause serious irritation to the lungs and trigger – or even cause – asthma. Even those marked as “green” can cause pollution in the air\, water\, and soil. \nIn early childcare centers\, it is important to make sure that materials and surfaces are properly cleaned\, sanitized\, and disinfected with products that are non-aerosol\, fragrance-free\, and have all ingredients listed on the label or are available on the website. \nIn the session\, the instructor will discuss the differences of cleaning\, sanitizing\, and disinfecting as well as the negative effects of current cleaning products. Examples will be provided of alternate products that can be used by educators. \nThe session will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday\, Sept. 7. DESCRIPTION:The Brazelton Touchpoints Center is hosting a workshop in September that explores how caregivers and early education professionals can understand the unique experiences and developmental processes of children. \nLearn More\nInside a Child’s Mind will explore how\, from birth\, children bring their own unique contributions to their development. Children’s temperaments\, individuals competencies\, and cultures all influence a child’s experience of themselves in their development process as well as their experience of the people and world around them. This workshop will explore children’s perspectives on their own developmental process from birth through preschool. \nWho Should Apply\nThe course is aimed at professionals who work with young children. This includes early care educators\, family child care providers\, mental health consultants\, home visitors\, pediatricians\, and early interventionists. \nMore Details\nCertificates will be provided at the end of the six-hour course. The cost of the course\, which begins Sept. 6\, is $140 per seat. Each 90-minute live\, interactive workshop will take place at 1 p.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT on Thursdays.
