DESCRIPTION:Brazelton Touchpoints Center is offering a course that aims to enhance the provider-parent partnership and engage parents and other caregivers in planning for their child’s developmental needs. \nLearn More\n“Development is a Journey: A Conversation Roadmap for Talking with Families” is a three-hour course that will take place on June 13. \nEarly identification and intervention are critical to promote a child’s development. However\, developmental screening results and concerns can cause anxiety for families and providers. Brazelton Touchpoints Center has developed a tool to help providers have collaborative and productive conversations with families about developmental screening results. \nIn this workshop\, participants will: \n\nExplore the seven steps in the roadmap tool\nLearn strategies to engage parents and families in the developmental screening process\nPractice having conversations about developmental screening results that honor families’ perspectives\, cultures\, and values\nLearn strategies to elicit parents’ observations of their children’s strengths as well as their concerns about their children’s behavior and development\nPractice sharing their own observations of children’s behavior with parents\nPractice next steps when a developmental screener yields reason for concern\n\nThe live\, interactive webinar will run from noon to 3 p.m. ET and 9 a.m. to noon PT on Thursday\, June 13. DESCRIPTION:CitiParks and Adaptive POGOH will offer one free session per month in which they will teach attendees of all ages how to ride a bicycle. \nLearn More\nThose who stop by will be able to practice in the park\, try an Adaptive POGOH or pre-register for an instruct0r-led group class. Participants can bring their own bikes or use one of POGOH’s. \nAges 5 and up will be able to learn while riding the half-mile Bud Harris Cycling Track along Washington Boulevard. DESCRIPTION:Pittsburgh’s CitiParks Office of Special Events has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2024 Summer Concert Series Presented by Citizens. This year’s four concert series will feature 23 free events\, including a July 14 performance by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. \nStars at Riverview will showcase local artists on Saturday evenings in Riverview Park throughout June and July. Each week\, concerts supported by the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) will be followed by Dollar Bank’s Cinema in the Park. \nBach\, Beethoven\, and Brunch will bring classical melodies to Mellon Park. This year marks the return of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to this program. The Highland Park lawn will host local musicians in the Reservoir of Jazz series\, which take place on Sunday afternoons in August. The concerts are followed by Summer Soul Line Dancing sessions. \nThis year’s Jam at Grandview on Mt. Washington will take place on five Saturdays in August. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Juneteenth\, the Frick Environmental Center will host Black Power Storytime on June 19. The event will also include a garden activity. \nLearn More\nAttendees will meet in the From Slavery to Freedom Garden for a storytime event that celebrates Juneteenth. The event\, presented by BOOM Concepts\, will feature award-winning artist and entrepreneur DS Kinsel\, who will read two children’s stories. \nAfterward\, children and their caregivers will be able to participate in a short garden activity led by Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy naturalist educators. The program is best suited for families with children ages four to 9. \nMore Details\nBlack Power Storytime will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday\, June 19. It is located at 2005 Beechwood Boulevard in Pittsburgh. \nThere is a parking lot and additional on-street parking by the center. You can reach the center by bus via the 61A and 61B and get off at the Forbes and Dallas avenues stop. The center is a five-minute walk from the bus stop.
