SUMMARY:Communities of Practice: Available Behavior and Mental Health Resources
DESCRIPTION:ELRC Region 5 offers Communities of Practice (COP) for early learning professionals to discuss topics of interest\, current trends in the field\, and offer insight and inspiration to one another. \nIn March\, ELRC Region 5 will provide information about several of the behavior and mental health resources available to support their programs. We will briefly discuss with participants the importance of behavior\, emotional\, and mental health support for our youngest children to thrive as well as their ideas to help a scenario classroom. Representatives from the Rapid Response Team\, Infant Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC)\, the Alliance for Infants and Toddlers\, and DART will share information about their programs with the participants in breakout rooms. Participants will have the opportunity to rotate through the breakout rooms to ask specific questions and learn about each organization. \nRegistration is required for this session. 1.5 PQAS credit hours will be available. SUMMARY:Universal Early Childhood Education:  What Could This Mean for Our Jewish Community?
DESCRIPTION:President Biden’s Build Back Better Framework would provide the most transformative investment in children and caregiving in generations. The Build Back Better framework would enable states to expand access to free early childhood education for more than 6 million children per year and increase the quality of early childhood education for many more children already enrolled. Additionally\, the Build Back Better framework would ensure that middle-class families pay no more than 7 percent of their income on child care and will help states expand access to high-quality\, affordable child care to about 20 million children per year – covering 9 out of 10 families across the country with young children. What could this mean for our Jewish community? \nJoin the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh on March 10 for their virtual event\, “Universal Early Childhood Education: What Could This Mean for Our Jewish Community?” Registration is available on the Jewish Federation website. \nPanelists\nCara Ciminillo is the Executive Director of Trying Together\, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit supporting the work of early childhood through advocacy\, community resources\, and professional growth opportunities for the needs and rights of children\, their families\, and the individuals who interact with them. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Education\, Administrative and Policy Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. \nAnna Hartman is the Director of Early Childhood Excellence at the Jewish United Fund and the Director of the Paradigm Project\, a national network that nurtures emerging leadership in Jewish early childhood education. Anna holds a master’s in Jewish educational leadership from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and is a doctoral candidate in Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary. She has participated in three study tours of the renowned municipal early childhood centers in Reggio Emilia\, Italy. A recipient of the Pomegranate Prize\, JUF’s Samuel A. Educators will evaluate the impact their ordinary interactions have on child development and the overall quality of programming in their learning communities.  Course experiences offer school age educators the chance to cultivate professional self-awareness and community building.  Through the Everyday Interactions Matter approach\, educators recognize powerful moments of connecting\, sharing\, learning\, and belonging in their everyday interactions with school age children. \nAbout Everyday Interactions Matter\nEveryday Interactions Matter (EIM) is a professional development initiative designed to help early childhood educators learn and grow from their own practice. Through a strengths-based process of observation\, discussion\, and reflection\, educators take a close look at the everyday moments they share with children. Video footage of adult-child interactions serves as the raw material for facilitating professional growth.
