DESCRIPTION:Trying Together will present a session at the 13th Annual Disability and Mental Health Summit on Thursday\, May 7 and have a table at its resource fair. \nLearn More\nThe summit will be co-hosted by state Reps. Jessica Benham (D-36th District) and Emily Kinkead (D-20th District) at the CCAC – Allegheny Campus\, located at 818 Ridge Avenue. \nTrying Together will host one of the sessions at the summit and set up a table during its resource fair. \nThe summit is a free event that brings hundreds of people and participating organizations together to share information on a wide variety of topics in the disability and mental health arena. Its aim is to bring resources and experts out of their office and into a single\, easy-to-access environment in which people can meet face-to-face to better solve problems and enhance futures. \nThis year will have a larger resource fair\, more free information sessions than last year\, and a greater partnership with schools that will bring even more transition-aged young adults to the event to help them figure out their next steps. \nRegistration is open. SUMMARY:Stronger Together: DAWA Ancestral Wellness Series
DESCRIPTION:The Homewood Early Learning Hub & Family Center is hosting a three-part series monthly for caregivers that will cover everything from ancestral food traditions and nature-based healing to lifestyle transformation. Families that attend all three sessions will receive a $50 gift card. \nThe Stronger Together: DAWA Ancestral Wellness Series will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following Fridays – April 10\, May 8\, and June 12 at the Homewood Early Learning Hub & Family Center. \nSession 1\nThe April 10 session\, Remembering Our Roots: Ancestral Foodways\, will enable participants to explore ancestral food traditions and how disconnection from traditional ways of eating has affect community health. \nActivities include group memory sharing of foods\, remedies\, and rituals from childhood; an introduction to ancestral wellness principles\, beginning guided DAWA wellness journals\, and creating an herbal infusion (tincture or oxymel) to take home at the end of the series. \nSession 2\nThe May 8 session\, Listening to the Body and Nature as Medicine\, blends organ wellness and nature-based healing\, teaching participants how to listen to their bodies while reconnecting with the earth. \nTopics will include understanding body signals and signs of imbalance\, organ wellness\, simple seasonal ancestral cleansing practices\, and grounding\, sunlight\, fresh air\, and basic plant medicine. \nActivities during this session include body-awareness practices\, creating an organ-support herbal blend\, and planting seeds to take home and nurture. The session will also include time for journal reflection. \nSession 3\nThe June 12 session\, Creating Our New Life: Vision and Commitment\, will enable participants to complete their herbal infusion from the first week and engage in a session focused on identity\, affirmations\, and lifestyle transformation. \nActivities during this session include straining and bottling herbal infusion\, a DIY herbal tea station\, affirmation board creation\, and a final sharing circle during which participants will present their personal wellness commitments. \n

SUMMARY:American Red Cross First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, CPR\, and AED Training
DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and ELRC Region 5 are partnering to provide in person and hybrid First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, and automated external defibrillator (AED) trainings to early childhood professionals. \nAbout the Course\nThis PQAS-certified in-person course provides life-saving skills in alliance with The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. \nCertification will be issued upon successful completion of the course. This certification is valid for two years. \nThe cost is $70. \nPLEASE NOTE: Successful course completion requires full participation in classroom and skill sessions\, as well as successful performance in skill and knowledge evaluations. \nParticipants will be conducting strenuous activities\, such as performing CPR on the floor. If you have a medical condition or disability that will prevent you from taking part in the skills practice sessions\, please let your instructor know so that accommodations can be made for the practice portion. The CPR and AED evaluations must be completed with the manikin on the ground. \nInformation for Hybrid Sessions\nThe online coursework for hybrid sessions must be completed prior to the in-person class. Access to the online coursework will be provided via email upon completion of registration. Allow yourself 3-4 hours to complete. We advise completing the online coursework at least 48 hours prior to your in-person course.
