DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and ELRC Region 5 are partnering to provide in person and hybrid First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, and automated external defibrillator (AED) trainings to early childhood professionals. \nAbout the Course\nThis PQAS-certified in-person course provides life-saving skills in alliance with The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. \nCertification will be issued upon successful completion of the course. This certification is valid for two years. \nThe cost is $70. \nPLEASE NOTE: Successful course completion requires full participation in classroom and skill sessions\, as well as successful performance in skill and knowledge evaluations. \nParticipants will be conducting strenuous activities\, such as performing CPR on the floor. If you have a medical condition or disability that will prevent you from taking part in the skills practice sessions\, please let your instructor know so that accommodations can be made for the practice portion. The CPR and AED evaluations must be completed with the manikin on the ground. \nInformation for Hybrid Sessions\nThe online coursework for hybrid sessions must be completed prior to the in-person class. DESCRIPTION:Child care providers\, ELRC staff\, and community leaders will be able to take part in a workshop about the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) on Saturday\, May 16 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. \nLearn More\nThe workshop will include a brief overview of CACFP and how it operates statewide and in the Erie region. Participants will engage in some interactive work to inform recommendations for improving CACFP statewide. These recommendations will be used to prioritize CACFP resource and training development for child care providers and CACFP sponsors. \nLunch will be provided and there will be a raffle of classroom materials and gift cards provided by Lakeshore Learning to all participants who work in child care settings. \nThe event is free and open to all\, but there is a limit of 25 participants. It will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those interested in attending should reserve a spot now.

SUMMARY:Make a Circle Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and Westmoreland County Community College are hosting an advocacy event! Students\, administrators\, and community members are invited to the premiere screening of “Make a Circle\,” a heartfelt documentary honoring early educators. The film follows child care providers as they work to change societal views of early childhood education. It highlights educators’ classroom magic\, their personal challenges\, and their strong advocacy\, including thousands of child care educators marching to the state capitol to demand better conditions. This compelling portrait of early childhood educators offers a hopeful blueprint for strengthening and improving our child care system. \nFollowing the 60-minute screening\, attendees will participate in a brief Q&A with local early care and education experts. The event will conclude with time for students\, educators\, and community members to connect across sectors\, reflect on the film\, and discuss their shared commitment to elevating the field of early care and education across our region. \nDinner is included at this event. Please note any dietary restrictions when registering.  \nChildren are welcome to attend this event\, but child care will not be provided. Children must be supervised by their caregiver at all times.
