DESCRIPTION:Carnegie Mellon University’s Mellon College of Science will hold a workshop on how to design mathematics classrooms that are equitable\, inclusive\, and promote the wonder and beauty of math. \nLearn More\nThe class\, led by Dr. Anne Marie Marshall\, poses the question of how to ensure that every child grows into a confident and capable mathematician. The workshop will explore four key recommendations from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for catalyzing change in early childhood and elementary school classrooms. \nParticipants will explore strategies to broaden the goals of math education\, create equitable learning environments\, deliver instruction that will empower all learners\, and foster deep mathematical understanding. \nAttendees will: \n\nAnalyze tasks\, student work\, and classroom examples that showcase effective math teaching\nReflect on the importance of mathematical identities for both students and teachers\nIdentify and discuss systems that hinder student agency and access to meaningful math learning\nDevelop actionable steps to bring about positive change in early childhood and elementary math classrooms\n\nAct 48 credits are eligible for participants. Dinner and parking will be provided. \nThe workshop runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday\, Dec. 5 at Carnegie Mellon University. \nRegistration is now open.

DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and ELRC Region 5 are partnering to provide a hybrid First Aid\, Pediatric First Aid\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, and automated external defibrillator (AED) training to early childhood professionals. \nAbout the Course\nThis PQAS-certified blended learning course consists of an in-person class and online coursework.  The course provides life-saving skills in alliance with The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. \nThe online coursework must be completed prior to the in-person class. Access to the online coursework will be provided via email upon completion of registration. Allow yourself 3-4 hours to complete. We advise completing the online coursework at least 48 hours prior to your in-person course. DESCRIPTION:Attendees at this workshop will learn how to design and make their own stim tools and sensory supports with reused materials at the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse. \nLearn More\nStim tools and sensory supports are objects or materials that stimulate or soothe the senses. They can be used to help people focus\, regulate emotions\, and develop sensory processing skills.
