SUMMARY:On the Shoulders of Giants: Scientific Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Join the Child Mind Institute on October 6 for its 2020 Virtual Symposium: On the Shoulders of Giants. The Symposium will feature 2020 Sarah Gund Prize recipient W. Thomas Boyce\, MD. \nAbout\nOn the Shoulders of Giants is the Child Mind Institute’s annual celebration of scientific achievement in child and adolescent psychiatry\, psychology\, and developmental neuroscience. This symposium celebrates the spirit of scientific collaboration and stewardship\, and highlights seminal contributions to the field’s understanding of the brain and behavior. \nMotivated by the recent crises\, there will be a new format for this year’s event. Following brief presentations by Dr. Boyce and his proteges\, participants will move onto a roundtable discussion\, moderated by Dr. Nora Volkow and composed of past Distinguished Scientists honorees\, to discuss issues of racism and inequality on children’s mental health – as well as the future of training in the field. \nRegistration\nTo register and learn more\, visit the event registration page.

SUMMARY:Honoring Each Person’s Experience to Support Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Join Brazelton Touchpoints Center on October 19 for “Honoring Each Person’s Experience to Support Mental Health” to learn how to apply reflective practice and perspective-taking to your virtual work with children and families. \nAbout\nWhen working with families\, especially within today’s current crises\, it is important that everyone’s experience of a situation is heard and understood. This requires reflecting on all points of view: one’s own\, the child’s\, and that of their family members. In this webinar\, participants will learn how to adapt and apply reflective practice and perspective-taking to their virtual work with children and families. \nThis session is best suited for professionals who work with families of young children\, including early care educators\, family child care providers\, mental health consultants\, home visitors\, pediatricians\, early interventionists\, and more. \nRegistration\nTo register and learn more\, visit the event registration page. Space is limited. For questions\, contact btcsitenetwork@childrens.harvard.edu.
