SUMMARY:Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) Lunch & Learn
DESCRIPTION:Join Trying Together and Remake Learning for a Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) Lunch & Learn on Thursday\, October 4 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at The Hazelwood Early Learning Hub and be a part of the conversation to review the policy background\, current context\, and the importance of  developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) in teaching young children and addressing behaviors. \nDiscussion\nDiscussion will start with a focus on content from the Trying Together white paper “Advance Developmentally Appropriate Practice: How Young Children Learn” which highlights the importance of play in a child’s learning and development of cognitive\, social\, and emotional skills. \nAdditionally\, we will discuss the 2017 Pittsburgh Public School ban on suspending students in kindergarten through second second grade for minor\, non-violent offenses\, and the ways in which we can support schools and educators implementing a suspension ban policy. \nOur focus will be on preventative and responsive strategies to create an environment that supports educators\, families\, and children in ways that are intentional\, developmentally appropriate\, culturally competent\, gender responsive\, and trauma informed. This session will be interactive and provide participants an opportunity to discuss challenges and share best practices. \nFinally\, Trying Together will exclusively release the new white paper – “End Early Childhood Suspension and Expulsions: Developmentally Appropriate Practices and Policies for Addressing Behaviors in School Settings” – to attendees of the Lunch & Learn. \nDetails\nLunch will be served\, so please email Ani (ani@remakelearning.org) with any dietary restrictions or requests. Deadline for restriction requests is October 1. More details and accessibility will be noted in an email closer to the event. We keep these meetings free and open to the public. Help us reduce waste by letting us know if you need to cancel your registration. For other questions and concerns\, email Allie (allie@remakelearning.org). \nReserve your seat! Register now for this lunch and learn.
