SUMMARY:Playing with Childhood in the Twenty First Century
DESCRIPTION:Join the University of Pittsburgh for a two-day conference centered around marginalized children. \nThe past decade has witnessed an array of new forms of public and global interest in these groups of children\, including the incredible rise in the visibility of lesbian\, gay\, and transgender children\, the international migrations of refugee children from Latin America and the Syrian conflict\, or the over-incarceration and detention in the United States of undocumented and African American children. \nExplore how to conceptualize\, theorize\, and approach research on children and childhood in the rapidly changing context of the twenty-first century. \nHosted by the Gender\, Sexuality\, and Women’s Studies Program\, the Children’s Literature and Childhood Studies Program\, and the Humanities Center at the University of Pittsburgh\, attendance is FREE and open to the public\, but registration is required. \n*For those unable to physically attend\, a stream option will be available. \n  \nLocations \nMost of the conference’s sessions take place in the historic Cathedral of Learning (4200 Fifth Avenue). Elevators in the Cathedral require you to input the floor to which you wish to travel on one of the tablets in lobby; the screen will direct you to the next available elevator to take you to your floor. \nHumanities Center: 6th Floor\, room 602.\nRoom 349: Third Floor\nRoom 352: Third Floor \nThe lunchtime keynote with C.J. Pascoe (Friday\, April 6) will take place in the ballroom of the Wyndham Hotel (100 Lytton Avenue)\, across the street from the Cathedral.
