Join Trying Together in June for our three-week online course\, “WIDA Communication Strategies to Support Multilingual Children.” \nWIDA Communication Strategies Course\nParticipants will identify and apply developmentally appropriate academic language demands of routines\, social interactions\, and learning experiences for multilingual learners. Participants will learn about language supports to use in their environments to provide multiple meaningful opportunities for multilingual learners to use their own languages through the use of WIDA Early Years resources. \nThis three-week online course will take place on Schoology\, an online education platform. You will receive login information at least 48 hours before the course opens. \nCourse Details\nCourse Timeline: Monday\, June 7 – Monday\, June 28\, 2021 \nCore Knowledge Competencies (CKC): \n\n\n\nK5.3 C2 – Adapt a communication style and vocabulary to meet the needs of the listener\, based on culture\, primary language\, and cognitive strengths and/or limitations.\n\n\nK5.7 C2 – Implement programs which support\, extend and scaffold communication that is understood by each child through the use of verbal and non-verbal techniques that encourage children’s expressive and receptive language.\n\n\nSTARS. DESCRIPTION:Starting June 5\, Write Pittsburgh will host Neighborhood Storytelling Workshops for the Pittsburgh community. The first two workshops are intended for McKeesport and Hazelwood communities. \nNeighborhood Storytelling Workshops\nWrite Pittsburgh’s Neighborhood Storytelling Workshops provide a space for neighbors to brainstorm\, write\, and share stories about their lives in their neighborhoods and engage in conversations about what they hope the future will look like for their community. During this one hour virtual event\, educators from 67 school districts in the region and early learning programs will be celebrated for their innovation and dedication to supporting children and families transitioning to kindergarten. \nParticipants will be entered into a raffle to receive Lakeshore gift cards or a mini library of books. DESCRIPTION:Trying Together and Life Safety Pro Founder Jeremy Manke are hosting a blended (online and in-person) Pediatric CPR\, AED\, and First Aid course that meets Pennsylvania health and safety education requirements. Professionals who complete this course will receive a two-year certification. \nPediatric CPR\, AED\, and First Aid\nThis course consists of two parts. After registering\, you will receive a training link via email to complete the required CPR and First Aid online videos. This portion will take approximately four hours to complete. While participants can complete the training videos at their own pace\, all online training must be complete at least two days before attending the in-person training session. If a participant does not complete the online training\, they cannot participate in the in-person session.\nPart Two includes a one-and-a-half-hour in-person skills training session where participants will demonstrate CPR and First Aid skills from the online training. The instructor will walk participants through the session and answer questions. Fire extinguisher training that includes a PowerPoint presentation and hands-on training will be available to participants that added Fire Safety to their registration. Timeslots will be used to limit the number of participants. A limited number of participants will be assigned to each mannequin.
