SUMMARY:Teaching Children Through a Trauma Lens
DESCRIPTION:Join Trying Together for the upcoming session\, “Teaching Children Through a Trauma Lens”. \nResearch continues to show the detrimental effects that complex trauma has on the developing brain with our most vulnerable population. Over time\, these young children are at risk for developmental delays\, limited positive relationships\, and a host of other difficulties. Our early education classrooms can create safe\, responsive\, and equitable environments to assist in reducing these harmful effects. This presentation will identify different types of trauma\, how young children with trauma may present in the classroom\, and supportive strategies teachers can implement to foster environments that encourage healing. \nUnConference: Creating a Safe Place with Trauma-Informed Care\nThis session is a part of Trying Together’s upcoming UnConference. Between February 8-18\, expert-led workshops will share content related to trauma-informed care. We begin the UnConference with keynote speaker Dr. Veirdre Jackson and dive into how we can create an environment of healing through equity and trust. Following the keynote\, workshop sessions include how to identify family stressors\, how to provide responsive care-giving for children experiencing trauma\, and an overview of the recently launched Rapid Response Team from Trying Together. \nIndividuals can learn more and register on Trying Together’s website.

SUMMARY:Exploring Family Stressors and Creating Positive Relationships to Support Families
DESCRIPTION:Join Trying Together for the upcoming session\, “Talking to Listen: Exploring Family Stressors and Creating Positive Relationships to Support Families”. \nChildren react differently to stress and trauma\, which can sometimes exhibit itself as challenging behaviors in the classroom. This workshop helps educators understand the impact that family stressors (such as a death\, food insecurity\, changes in placement\, community violence\, etc.) can have on both children and their caregivers. Participants will learn how to notice these family stressors; how to communicate with caregivers to build relationships that provide a supportive environment for young children; and self-regulation strategies to manage strong emotions when having difficult conversations with caregivers. \nUnConference: Creating a Safe Place with Trauma-Informed Care\nThis session is a part of Trying Together’s upcoming UnConference. This event will be held virtually and interested individuals may register online. \nAdditional Information\nThis webinar will explore how racism permeates the social ecology of children’s and families’ lives through the lens of a new infographic from the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP)\, and what it looks like to implement anti-racist strategies\, policies\, and practices as individuals\, in organizations\, and at the community and societal levels. \nDr. Charlyn Harper Browne and Cailin O’Connor will draw from CSSP’s anti-racist intersectional frame and explore how Strengthening Families can be implemented as an anti-racist approach to work with families. Following the presentation\, participants will have time to discuss and share their reflections on the content as well as thoughts about how to apply these ideas in their work. \nParticipants will also hear about other new resources and opportunities from CSSP and the Children’s Trust Fund Alliance.

SUMMARY:2021 National Prenatal-to-3 Research to Policy Summit
DESCRIPTION:The National Prenatal-to-3 Research to Policy Summit will be held virtually only on Thursday\, October 7\, 2021. Join thousands of policymakers\, scholars\, and practitioners across the country to learn how to strengthen state policies that impact the foundational prenatal-to-three development period\, starting with rigorous evidence. \nMore Information\nRegistration to attend this virtual and free event via the online registration form. Sessions will include: \n\n\nTop Takeaways from States\n\nThrough all the challenges of the past year\, many states have remained committed and increased investments that strengthen systems impacting the prenatal to age 3 period (PN-3). Hear directly from state leaders about what actions they’ve taken and what lessons they’ve learned over this historic year.\n\n\n\n2021 Prenatal-to-3 State Policy Roadmap Release\n\nThe annual Prenatal-to-3 State Policy Roadmap is the go-to guide for the field that details which specific state policies and strategies are most impactful on the PN-3 development period and where states are on each of them.  The new 2021 Roadmap has been streamlined and is packed with new data to incorporate into your work.\n\n\n\nSame Family\, Different Support\n\nState policy choices have a significant impact on the resources available to families. See the Roadmap come to life in a unique in-depth analysis of how a set of state policy choices leads to substantial variation in the resources available to a sample family of three – a single mother with an infant and a toddler\, who works full time at a minimum wage job – based on the state in which they live.\n\n\n\nOn the Horizon\n\nThrough systematic\, rigorous reviews of research\, the Policy Impact Center works to identify which state investments best support the most sensitive and rapid period of a child’s developing brain and body. Hear about our newest reviews of the evidence on promising and innovative prenatal-to-3 policies and strategies\, including the child allowance\, fair work scheduling\, and more.
