SUMMARY:Positive Racial Identity Professional Development Series
DESCRIPTION:Positive racial identity is crucial to the healthy development of children and their sense of whole identity and worldview. In this series\, instructors will discuss positive racial identity and its application to the early childhood setting.  \nIn partnership with Trying Together and external experts\, this course will identify the history of positive racial identity in the education setting as well as barriers such as racism and implicit bias. Instructors will move from this topic to discuss how these barriers can be confronted and how positive racial identity can be interwoven with classroom practices\, such as through literature\, resources\, and family and community partnerships. Instructors also will touch on program-wide policies that can encourage positive racial identity from a whole center approach versus an individual classroom approach. \nSession Details\nSession Dates: July 28\, August 4\, August 11\, and August 18\, 2022. The July 28\, August 4\, and August 18 sessions will be self-paced in Schoology. Through this strengths-based process\, professionals can recognize powerful moments of connection\, sharing\, growing\, and belonging in everyday interactions with others. \nThis course begins on June 21 and is available only for early learning professionals within Allegheny County. The course consists of weekly Zoom sessions on Tuesdays from 6 – 7:30 p.m.\, along with self-paced work on Schoology over a five week period. \nRegistration is required and space will be limited. 15 hours of PQAS or Act 48 credit will be available upon completion of the full course. \nRegister now.  \n
