This event is best suited for Early Intervention parents and therapists\, early learning professionals\, service coordinators\, and teachers. \nLunch and Learn Series\nThis Virtual Lunch and Learn Series will include three workshops\, including: \nWhy Is This Child Stuck? Medical specialists sometimes uncover a cause but rarely are common immune reactions or dietary weaknesses suspected. Discover how the immune system communicates with and can disrupt neurological function and how nutrition gaps can impact clinical outcomes. \nCore Knowledge Competency (CKC) and Learning Objectives \nK7.12 C1 – Describe the dietary needs associated with age-related development and ways to accommodate children’s and families’ special needs and preferences. \n\nDiscover how widespread messenger molecules communicate between the immune and nervous systems.\nRecognize common symptoms that suggest a weak diet or nutrition deficiencies and understand why they are significant.\nIdentify patients who may have nutrition or immune issues that could be interfering with optimal clinical outcomes.\n\nThe Power of Play in a High-Tech World\nWednesday\, May 19\, 2021  |  12:00 – 3:00 p.m.\nPresenter: Cari Ebert\, MS\, CCC-SLP\, Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist\nRegistration Deadline: May 12\, 2021\n \nThree PQAS\, ASHA\, and/or Act 48 credit hours available. \nIt is critical for pediatric therapists\, early childhood educators\, and parents to understand and appreciate the connection between brain development and play\, especially in young children who present with developmental delays. This course will provide an evidence-based approach to working with young children and their families by promoting cognitive\, language\, sensorimotor and social-emotional development through child-directed\, adult-guided play experiences. \nParticipants will gain more insight as to how play has changed over the years as a result of technology\, along with a rationale as to the benefits of screen-free play for young children with developing brains and bodies. Guidelines for virtual therapy visits during COVID-19 will also be discussed. \nCore Knowledge Competency (CKC) and Learning Objectives \nK2.14 C1 – Identify ways in which play (construction\, organizing\, and applying knowledge) is the primary instructional mode for supporting children’s construction of knowledge. \n\nSummarize the benefits of play across the five developmental domains (cognitive\, communication\, social-emotional\, physical\, adaptive).\nDescribe the limitations of drill work\, flashcards\, and educational apps when working with young children with developing brains and bodies.\nExplain the developmental stages of object play and social play from birth to age five.\nList specific strategies to make virtual therapy sessions more effective for young children and their families.\n\nEmpowering Parents in a Positive Way through Virtual and In-Person Coaching\nThursday\, May 27\, 2021  |  12:00 – 2:00 p.m.\nPresenter: June Fisher\, President of Dynamic Training Solutions\nRegistration Deadline: May 20\, 2021\n \nTwo PQAS and/or Act 48 credit hours available. \nAttend this interactive workshop to learn and share knowledge and skills that will improve your ability to work with a diverse population as you guide them to be the best caregivers they can be.
