SUMMARY:Dismantling Oppressive Systems: Building Just Communities
DESCRIPTION:Join the University of Pittsburgh from July 26 – 29 for “Diversity Forum 2021” to learn about racial justice and opportunities to actuate intentional\, meaningful change. \nAbout\nThe 2021 Diversity Forum\, “Dismantling Oppressive Systems: Building Just Communities\,” will engage and equip participants with the knowledge\, skills\, and resources needed to: \n\n\n\nidentify sources of systemic oppression\,\nconsider strategies for dismantling that oppression\, and\nactions critical in fostering more equitable and just communities in which we live\, work\, and learn.\n\n\n\nThe forum will focus on outlining the key concepts underpinning social justice\, illuminating examples of systemic injustice\, and examining means and methods of infusing equitable and just policies and practices across multiple sectors. Participants will discuss theories of racial/social identity development that can help in understanding oneself\, others\, and intergroup dynamics in the context of implementing social justice efforts. \nLearning Objectives\n\n\n\nUnderstand how our socialization informs our biases and positions us to perpetuate structural inequalities.\nUnderstand the barriers that inhibit us from expanding our diversity consciousness and fully embracing different cultures\, perspectives\, and people.\nRecognize the breadth of competencies necessary to engage and advance multicultural communities.\nUtilize an equity lens to analyze and revise policies and practices to foster equitable and just outcomes in our communities.\nBuild communities of dialogue and support in acting against systemic oppression.\n\n\n\nRegistration\nTo register\, visit the University of Pittsburgh website. Join the PD Registry on July 28 to learn how to navigate the new process and more. \nKeystone STARS Designation System\nOn July 28\, the PD Registry team is hosting a live demonstration of the new Keystone STARS pre-designation and designation applications for child care directors\, administrators\, and owners in Pennsylvania. The new applications will officially launch on October 1\, 2021 and will streamline the designation process for providers. \nA demonstration recording will be available on the Pennsylvania Key website.
