SUMMARY:The Huddle: How to Use Coaching Skills with your Staff (and Students)
DESCRIPTION:Join Allegheny County Department of Human Services (ACDHS)\, Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time (APOST)\, and Trying Together on Monday\, April 15\, 2024\, for The Huddle: How to Use Coaching Skills with your Staff (and Students) featuring keynote speaker Katherine Spinney. \nAbout the Workshop\nIncreasingly the professional world is experiencing the benefits and impact of coaching in the workplace. This is especially true of Millennials who have named coaching as one of the most important components they look for in a job. So how can out-of-school (OST) time and summer camp directors and other staff managers incorporate coaching skills into their management style to support staff and clients alike? \nHear from speaker Katherine Spinney how basic coaching skills can be taught and used by anyone to better support their staff and clients\, and develop strong teams and programs. Telling people what to do is not nearly as effective as coaching them to access their strengths so they can develop and implement solutions; let Katherine “help you and your staff transform from struggling to thriving too!” \nThis professional development workshop is for: \n\ndirectors and those managing staff at early learning programs that regularly offer out-of-school (OST) time and summer camp programming\ndirectors and those managing staff at OST and summer camp programs for children of all ages.\n\nSession Details\nMonday\, April 15\, 2024\n\n\n\nDoors Open/Registration: 9:30 a.m.\nWorkshop Begins: 10:00 a.m.\nLunch and Networking: 11:45 a.m.\n\nAttendees are invited to explore the inside and outside of the Frick Environmental Center and to network with other attendees.\n\n\nEvent Ends: 1:30 p.m.\n\n\nLocation: Frick Environmental Center\, 2005 Beechwood Boulevard\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15217\n\nRegistration is required and is now open. PQAS and Act 48 credit hours will be available. The cost is $25 to attend\, and space is limited.

SUMMARY:Touchpoints in Libraries: Understanding Child Development and Engaging Families
DESCRIPTION:Starting in April\, Touchpoints in Libraries focuses on understanding a child’s developmental process from birth to 6 years of age. It also focuses on connecting with families through strengths-based interactions. \nLearn More\nThe Brazelton Touchpoints Center course consists of eight modules and is carried out with a cohort of library staff from around the country. Each module takes two-and-a-half hours to complete. The modules include a 90-minute live session and 60 minutes of online work. \nModules are followed by six monthly one-hour virtual reflective practice sessions. Attendance is required at all live sessions\, which are not recorded. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate. \nWhat You Will Learn\nParticipants will learn to view children’s development as a process characterized by periods of change that affect the family system. Additionally\, there will be opportunities to connect with and support families in daily library interactions. \nThe course will teach participants to use strengths-based and culturally responsive strategies to connect with families and workers. Lastly\, participants will learn to create a shared language among staff about engaging families and caregivers. \nMore Details\nEach module will contain a minimum of 10 participants. It is aimed at professionals who work in library settings and with young children and their families. The cost for the program is $795. \nLive sessions are from 2-3:30 p.m. ET and 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. PT on Thursdays\, starting April 4. The dates for the sessions are April 4\, 11\, 18\, and 25 as well as May 2\, 9\, 16\, and 23.
