SUMMARY:Remake Learning Days Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Remake Learning Days Festival will offer more than 350 events during its nearly three-week run in May. \nLearn More\nFrom May 2 to 22\, families can take part in events and celebrate learning during the festival’s run. Activities include building a robot\, coding an art spinner\, directing a film\, doing scientific work\, exploring the outdoors\, making music\, printing inventions with a 3-D printer\, and more. \nThe festival will include in-person and virtual events hosted by schools\, museums\, libraries\, after-school organizations\, child care centers\, and tech companies. \nActivities are offered for children ages two to 17 as well as for adults. There are a number of free activities as well as others that range from $1 to $50. \n“Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster” will be performed at the festival. SUMMARY:Touchpoints in Libraries: Understanding Child Development and Engaging Families
DESCRIPTION:Starting in April\, Touchpoints in Libraries focuses on understanding a child’s developmental process from birth to 6 years of age. It also focuses on connecting with families through strengths-based interactions. \nLearn More\nThe Brazelton Touchpoints Center course consists of eight modules and is carried out with a cohort of library staff from around the country. Each module takes two-and-a-half hours to complete. The modules include a 90-minute live session and 60 minutes of online work. \nModules are followed by six monthly one-hour virtual reflective practice sessions. Attendance is required at all live sessions\, which are not recorded. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate. \nWhat You Will Learn\nParticipants will learn to view children’s development as a process characterized by periods of change that affect the family system. Additionally\, there will be opportunities to connect with and support families in daily library interactions. \nThe course will teach participants to use strengths-based and culturally responsive strategies to connect with families and workers. Lastly\, participants will learn to create a shared language among staff about engaging families and caregivers. \nMore Details\nEach module will contain a minimum of 10 participants. It is aimed at professionals who work in library settings and with young children and their families. The cost for the program is $795. \nLive sessions are from 2-3:30 p.m. ET and 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. PT on Thursdays\, starting April 4. The dates for the sessions are April 4\, 11\, 18\, and 25 as well as May 2\, 9\, 16\, and 23.

The event is a voter education opportunity. \nThe Voter Empowerment Education & Enrichment Movement was launched in 2017 to increase voter turnout for every election in Allegheny County. Through conversations with families raising Indigenous babies and children\, the discussion will center on what it is like to nurture children in the modern world. \nThe series will explore the ways in which families help their children to grow their Native identities and connections with land while navigating diverse systems of care and learning. \nThe series is led by Tarajean Yazzie-Mintz\, Ed.D\, the Indigenous Early Learning Collaborative’s institute director and co-founder and principal consultant at First Light Education Project. \nMore Details\nThe four-part series begins on Friday\, May 24 and continues through Friday\, Oct. 18 Each webinar is an hour followed by a 30-minute Q&A session with parent panelists. DESCRIPTION:The Riverlife Chalk Fest will feature the work of 25 chalk artists from 12 states as well as local food and drink along Pittsburgh’s North Shore. \nLearn More\nThe third annual event will mark the start of summer along the city’s riverfront. On Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend\, visitors will be able to view chalk art along Isabella Street and Allegheny Landing. \nThe streets will be the artists’ canvas that they will cover with murals. DESCRIPTION:The Pittsburgh Glass Center will host a sensory friendly open house on May 25 that will include tours\, demonstrations\, and activities that are appropriate for all ages. \nLearn More\nThe free open house will take place when the center is closed to the public\, so visitors may explore the space on their own. \nActivities include a self-guided tour of the Pittsburgh Glass Center’s four studios\, gallery and retail space. There will also be glassblowing demonstrations in the center’s Hot Shop as well as a designated chill zone with activities for visitors of all ages. \nVisitors are encouraged to borrow a sensory kit from the center’s front desk upon arrival. It includes noise-canceling headphones\, paper fans\, fidget toys\, and more items to help visitors with sensory sensitivities navigate the space. \nMore Details\nThe open house runs from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday\, May 25.
