The event, which is part of the Regional Asset District’s RAD Days, is a free, all-ages, family-friendly event highlighting the history and significance of the From Slavery to Freedom Garden at the Frick. The garden showcases plants and vegetables that freedom seekers used for nourishment and medicine on their journey north as they fled slavery.

The event is held in September to mark International Underground Railroad Month, commemorating the escapes of such iconic figures as Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass.

Freedom Harvest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7. Attendees can take part in a garden tour and tasting at noon. Registration will be available soon.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., attendees can take part in nature-based activities. There will be live musical performances from local musicians as well as garden bites prepared by local chefs.

The event will also include story hikes as well as various table activities and lawn games. Various community organizations will offer educational presentations and craft activities.
