The Principal’s Pink Tutu Run

Saturday, 7:30 am to 10:00 am

Children, families, and other community members are invited to celebrate a student literacy achievement this coming weekend. On Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 7:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Miller PreK-5 will host the, “Principal’s Pink Tutu 5K Run/Walk” to recognize “Miller Scholars” who collectively read 250 books in a six week period.

“I am excited to celebrate this accomplishment by our students,” said Dr. Margaret J. Starkes, Principal at Pittsburgh Miller. “Borrowing inspiration from the book, ‘The Principal’s Pink Tutu Run’, we are asking everyone to decorate and wear their own pink-colored tutu and join us for a 5K run and walk to recognize the students’ efforts to complete this challenge.”

Participants are asked to arrive to Pittsburgh Miller at 7:30 a.m. for registration. The 5K run/walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the route will go from: Miller to University Preparatory School on Centre Avenue (UPrep); from UPrep to Pittsburgh Weil Early Childhood Center; from Weil to Freedom Corner; and back to Miller. A special prize will also be rewarded for the most unique tutu and most books read by an individual student.

The “Principal’s Pink Tutu 5K Run/Walk” was coordinated to support the Hill District Education Council’s “Read to Succeed Campaign Initiative” which aims to assist elementary school students in the community with improving their reading scores.
