Understanding the Play of Grieving Children

Wednesday, 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm Free

Are you interested in learning how play can serve as an expression of a child’s grief? Join the Highmark Caring Place on March 3 for their online event, “The Curious Observer Part 2: Understanding the Play of Grieving Children.”

About

Young children grieve as much as adults do, yet their grief is often masked because it looks so different from what we expect to see. We might see children playing after the death of a loved one and mistakenly believe that they are not grieving. Yet, play is a critical way that children communicate their thoughts and feelings and cope with external stress.

Join the Highmark Caring Place in the second part of their two-part series focused on the grief of young children as they look at the importance of play, and at how caring adults can gain insight into children’s thoughts and feelings through observing with care and curiosity.

Learning Objectives

During this webinar, participants will:

    • learn how play is a form of communication for young children,
    • recognize how play can serve as an expression of a child’s grief, and
    • identify the role that caring adults can serve in supporting the play of grieving children.
