Positive Relationships, The Key to a Child’s Heart

Positive interactions provide lasting effects throughout a child’s lifetime. Join Trying Together on May 12 for “Connections and Conversations: Positive Relationships, The Key to a Child’s Heart” to learn more.

About

This session will explore the importance of building positive relationships between educators and children, and highlight how positive interactions provide lasting effects throughout the course of a child’s lifetime.

Connections and Conversations Virtual Check-Ins are interactive sessions that highlight early childhood education topics. Participants engage in virtual discussions with child development experts and interact with early learning practitioners to share questions, experiences, and expertise.

Course Details

Session Date: Wednesday, May 12, 2021  |  6 – 7 p.m.

Instructors: Judy Graca and Katie Streiff

Core Knowledge Competencies (CKC):

  • K2.13 C1 – Identify strategies, involving both adults and children, designed to help children develop social-emotional skills including self-regulation, conflict resolution, social problem solving, and mutual respect.
  • K5.1 C1 – Define communication as a process in which verbal and non-verbal messages are sent and received to facilitate the development of positive relationships between and among staff, children, families, and community members.

Registration

Step One (Event Registration)

To register, complete the online registration form. Registration closes on May 10 at 11:55 p.m. Have your PD Registry Number available (if any).

Step Two (Receiving Credit)

One hour of PQAS credit is available. To receive credit, complete the PD Registry Credit Request Form (in addition to the registration form). For questions about credit, contact Jasmine Davis at jasmine@tryingtogether.org.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify positive relationships from their own life experiences and apply that motivation into nurturing relationships with children.
  • Identify the benefits of a positive child/teacher relationship and how it relates to brain development in children.
  • Apply positive interaction strategies into their classroom practices to support meaningful relationships with children.

Session Rules

These discussions help educators grow professionally and share knowledge on early childhood topics. Participants should follow the guidelines below to ensure a successful virtual meeting for all participants.

  • Please allow all participants a chance to speak. Listen respectfully and actively.
  • Commit to learning about each other, not to debating the topic.
  • Embrace differences of opinion as healthy and support each person’s authentic self-expression.
  • Participants will be muted for the beginning portion of the session.
  • Participants may use the “Raise Hand” feature in Zoom to request an opportunity to comment or ask a question. Individuals will be temporarily unmuted by the moderator.
  • Participants may type a comment or question in the Chat or may send comments or questions directly to the moderator for them to share.
  • Have fun, make connections, and engage in the conversations!
