Brown Mamas and the Birthing Hut are hosting their first Black Maternal Health celebration from April 11 – 18, 2021. Join them for a series of free events centered on wellness, birthing, and justice.
This celebration gives birthing and non-birthing mothers and fathers a chance to connect with their bodies, learn about how to birth in ways that are beneficial for mothers and families, and be educated on current fights for reproductive justice in our country. Events include the following:
Wellness Movement for Mamas Sunday, April 11, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Yoga, breathwork, meditation, and womb-awareness hula hooping are on the agenda for this four-hour Wellness Movement Session. Birthing and non-birthing individuals can drop in to join the wellness practitioners in calming and fun, black-female-centered movement.
Doula Speed-Dating and Info Session Wednesday, April 14, 7 – 9 p.m.
Join the Birthing Hut and a host of doulas to learn more about how doulas can help you birth your way. In addition to tons of info on what doulas do, participants will be able to have one-on-one time with local doulas.
Belly of the Beast Film Screening and Q&A Friday, April 16
Grab your snacks and be ready to drop your jaws as participants quarantine and screen this harrowing film chronicling the fight for reproductive justice by women formerly incarcerated in California State Prisons. The film chronicles their fight for justice after learning they were unknowingly sterilized by practitioners at the facilities.
