Trying Together envisions a future in which all caregivers feel valued. While children are developing critical language and literacy skills at child care or in the classroom, they sometimes struggle to communicate what they did “at school” to the adults important to their lives. Message from Me serves as a tool for children to communicate with their families about their daily activities and learning experiences through the use of digital pictures and recorded audio messages. Families receive the messages in the form of an email and/or text message. Message from Me is a child-led, digital tool that encourages interactions and builds connections between home and school. With this platform, children share their voice, feelings, and perspective on the world around them. Professional Development Message from Me was created in alignment with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Fred Rogers Center Joint Position Statement on Technology and Interactive Media as Tools in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children Birth through Age 8. Educators interested in using Message from Me receive hands-on professional development that supports teaching practices when using digital technologies with children. Trying Together exclusively provides the professional development for Message from Me. Impact Today, over 20,000 children have engaged in Message from Me. Currently, Message from Me is used in early learning centers and school districts across Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Utah, and Atlanta Public Schools. Beginning in 2019, with the generous support of PNC Grow Up Great, Message from Me is expanding nationwide across PNC’s 50+ markets.
