State DCNR Announces New Planning Tools, Updates to Accessible Recreation Website

Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) has announced new planning tools, communication boards, and updates to its accessible recreation website pages to help visitors to plan trips to the state’s public lands.

The DCNR recently announced several ways that it is making state parks and forests more accessible for all visitors.

The agency said it is making major updates to its accessible recreation website pages. More than 100 state park and forest webpages now list detailed accessibility features. 

These pages continue to be updated and include information about accessible facilities and amenities, such as lodging, pavilions, water access, fishing access, hiking, hunting, beaches, loaner equipment, colorblind viewfinders, wildlife-watching areas, theaters, amphitheaters, and environmental education centers.

A new search function on the websites allows visitors to filter locations by the specific accessibility features they are looking for.

The DCNR also announced new:

  • Online planning tools
  • Communication boards at seven state parks
  • Handy Talkers
  • Colorblind viewing resources for all visitors to plan trips and enjoy Pennsylvania’s public lands.

Outdoors for All Day

Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will host an event in August titled Outdoors for All Day that will enable attendees to celebrate the outdoors and enjoy nature.

The event will include interactive family and friend outdoor activities, environmental education, games, music, food, and more. It is intended to celebrate the outdoors and allow participants to enjoy nature.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 15 at Allegheny Commons, located on West Ohio Street in Pittsburgh.

Registration is not required but helps organizers to plan for language interpreters and other event logistics. Registration is available online.
