November 19, 2025 Schenley Park Skating Rinks Opens for Season on November 22 Schenley Park Skating Rink will open for the season, operating seven days a week, starting on Saturday, November 22. Learn More Aside from being open every day, the rink will offer a full lineup of public skating sessions as well as a variety of special-themed events throughout the season. Special events include: Skate with Santa – Sunday, December 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (online tickets only) Country Night – Saturday, January 17 from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mascot Skate – Saturday, January 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (online tickets only) Disco Night – Saturday, February 7 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (all skate) and 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (adults only) Valentine’s On Ice – Saturday, February 14 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (family all skate) and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (adults only) (online tickets only) Family skate nights will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, during which one child will skate for free with a paying adult. Little Penguins will begin at the rink in January. Other sessions include Tuesdays from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., and Sundays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission to the rink is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and veterans with ID, and $3 for youth (ages 17 and below). Skate rentals are $3 per skater. Students can receive a $5 ticket with ID. “The Schenley Park Skating Rink is one of Pittsburgh’s most cherished winter attractions, and we’re thrilled to welcome families, friends, and neighbors back for another season,” said CitiParks Director Kathryn Vargas. June 9, 2025 Schenley Park Skating Rink Open for Summer The Schenley Park Skating Rink is now open four days a week through the end of August for the city’s roller-skating community. Learn More The park, which first opened 50 years ago, opened for the summer in late May. Roller-skating sessions this summer will include: Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Select Sundays (July 1, 8, and 15 and August 3, 24, and 31) from 10 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The park closes on August 31. “The organizers of PGH SK8 started hosting roller skate events at the rink and have worked to help us reimagine how we can utilize this facility to offer Pittsburghers an additional fun summer recreational activity in Schenley Park,” said Kathryn Vargas, CitiParks’ director.
November 19, 2024 Schenley Park Skating Rink Reopens Following Equipment Upgrade Schenley Park Skating Rink reopened for the 2024-25 season this week following an upgrade to its chilling equipment. Learn More The city planned to celebrate the opening of the outdoor rink with a ribbon cutting on Nov. 19. The city’s Department of Public Works encountered some issues during the upgrade of the equipment that prevented the 2023-24 season from taking place. The department completed the replacement of the aging chiller system, which was having difficulty keeping the ice viable. The total cost of the project was $3.5 million. Allegheny Regional Asset District contributed $2 million to the new chiller system. “The installation of the new chillers will ensure outdoor skating continues at Schenley Park for years to come,” said CitiParks Director Kathryn Vargas, who added that the upcoming season marks 50 years of the rink.
