May 22, 2023 CitiParks Announces Summer Activity Schedules for Concerts, Movies, and More The City of Pittsburgh Department of Parks & Recreation (CitiParks) Office of Special Events has announced its 2023 Summer Concert Series, 2023 Dollar Bank Cinema in the Park, and 2023 Farmers Market schedules. 2023 Summer Concert Series Three concert series will feature 22 events free to the public, including a July 9 performance by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. “Stars at Riverview” Series “Stars at Riverview” will once again bring local artists to Riverview Park on Saturday evenings throughout the entire summer. Concert-goers are invited to bring a lawn chair or spread a blanket on Observatory Hill for incredible musical entertainment sponsored by the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD). Each week concerts will be followed by a showing of “Dollar Bank Cinema in the Park”. This series will take place each Saturday between June 10 an August 26, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Riverview Park on Observatory Hill. December 1, 2021 Children Admitted Free to Heinz History Center During the month of December, children aged 17 and under will receive free admission to the Heinz History Center as part of their A Very Merry Pittsburgh event. Individuals must reserve tickets in advance before attending. About the Exhibit The History Center’s exhibition, A Very Merry Pittsburgh, features a special section with family keepsakes, artifacts, film, and imagery that explore how Western Pennsylvanians have celebrated major winter holidays, including Christmas, Chanukah, Diwali, and Kwanzaa, through the years. A Very Merry Pittsburgh will transport you back to the bustling holiday season in Downtown Pittsburgh with decorations and artifacts from popular department stores like Kaufmann’s & Macy’s, Horne’s, and Gimbels. About Established by the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD), RADical Days describes these events as “an annual thank you to the public,” featuring free admission, tours, performances, and family activities offered by organizations and attractions funded by RAD. RAD’s mission is to support and finance regional assets in the areas of libraries, parks, recreation, cultural, sports, and civic facilities and programs. In 2019, RAD adopted a $108.6 million budget serving 104 regional assets. Some 31% of the funding will go to support libraries; 31% to parks, trails and other green spaces; 13% to sports and civic facilities; 13% to arts and culture organizations; 8% to regional facilities (Zoo, Aviary, Phipps Conservatory); and 3% to transit. April 9, 2019 Month of the Young Child: Celebrating Early Childhood With Trying Together having designated April as the Month of the Young Child (MOYC), Kidsburgh asked Executive Director Cara Ciminillo to explain why access to high-quality early childhood care and education is so vital for our youngest generation. November 29, 2018 Schenley Park Skating Rink Open for Season Sharpen and your skates and get ready to enjoy another action-packed season of ice skating at the Schenley Park Skating Rink. The City of Pittsburgh’s outdoor rink is now open and offers a variety of skating sessions, lessons, and special events. Special Sessions The rink operates seven days a week and offers a variety of public sessions and lessons, including: Family Skate: Thursdays from 6:30 – 9 p.m. One child free with each paying adult (adult admission $5). All children must be accompanied by paying adults. College ID Sessions: Tuesdays from 9:30 – 11:30 p.m.; Wednesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.; and Sundays from 7 – 9 p.m. Present a valid college ID and save one dollar on admission (college student admission $4 during these sessions).
