About During the CelebratED: 2020 Virtual Celebration, the Grable Foundation will highlight the voices of educators, students, and parents as they describe the importance of educators and share their thoughts on how our communities can remake education. June 14, 2019 Center for Urban Education Summer Educator Forum Join the Center for Urban Education from July 18 to July 20 for their 2019 Summer Educator Forum. About The Center for Urban Education Summer Educator Forum (CUESEF) is a professional learning experience for education professionals, including pre- and practicing educators in Pittsburgh and the surrounding region, that focuses on Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline. Act 48 credits are available. During this intensive forum, participants from PreK-12 from all subject areas will deepen their knowledge and understanding of the topic, while experiencing a series of workshops and keynote speakers, including Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow: The Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. Program for an evening of engaging discussions on Thursday, May 2 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Library – Homewood Auditorium. Keynote This event features Muffy Mendoza. Mendoza is an author, parent, and founder of Pittsburgh Brown Mamas, a support from for mothers of color. Her keynote will focus on how parents and educators can team together to nurture young Black children. Following the keynote, she will join a panel discussion of strategies that support young children’s positive racial identity. Meet the Speaker Muffy Mendoza, Author, Speaker, Parent, and founder of BrownMamas. Muffy Mendoza is a mother of three boys, an author, an entrepreneur, and a dynamic speaker. Her 2018 book blueprint The Brown Mama Mindset, serves as a guidebook for Black moms on life, love, and home and was featured at the 2018 Essence Festival. She also founded Pittsburgh Brown Mamas, a support group for mothers in Pittsburgh, and has been featured as TEDx speaker.
