March 20, 2019 My Traveling Song About Created by a team of professional artists who are also the mothers of young children, “My Traveling Song” is an original play especially made for children ages 1-5, the young at heart, and the grown-ups who love them. With live music, tactile play and stunning imagery, “My Traveling Song” uplifts relationships between children and their caregivers while taking audience members on a heartfelt journey filled with wonder and joy. Purpose In “My Traveling Song” thunderstorms relinquish to cheerful mud puddles and darkness reveals magical firefly constellations in the night sky. Despite a world that can be unpredictable and sometimes sad, “My Traveling Song,” affirms the connections between loved ones, communities and the world around us can help to make us feel safe, loved, and free to imagine a more empathic and playful world. November 29, 2018 Tickets for Kids Book Club Tickets for Kids and the Sto-Rox Library announced the discussion dates for their new collaborative book club. The book chosen by their group is: “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City” by Matthew Desmond. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, this book was also the One Book One Community choice of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Public Health. An ethnographer, Desmond shares the intimate vicissitudes of his subject/friends as they struggle to make ends meet while negotiating a bewildering system of slumlords, public agencies, law enforcement, and courts, a system that seems almost designed to reinforce a downward spiral of poverty. March 28, 2018 Mayor Issues Executive Order for Lactation Rooms Mayor William Peduto issued an Executive Order on March 28, 2018 requiring the Office of Management and Budget to consider the installation of lactation rooms during major renovations and new construction of City facilities. In April of 2015, the City announced the opening of two lactation facilities – one in the City-County Building (414 Grant St.) and the other located in the John P. Robin Civic Building (200 Ross Street). In August of 2017, then-Councilman Gilman was awarded by the Allegheny County Health Department “The Breastfeeding Friendly Place” award for these achievements. “It is critical that we promote gender equity in the City of Pittsburgh, specifically in our facilities. I believe that all mothers in Pittsburgh deserve a safe, sanitary, and private place to breastfeed and pump breast milk for their children. These spaces should be available for both employees of the City and guests of our various facilities,” said Mayor Peduto. Read the full Order here.
