Recess: A Community Conversation

Physical movement and the freedom to play improves children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills. Children, their caregivers, and community members are invited to join the Recess Advocacy Team to discuss their school recess experiences. Families will also have the opportunity to play at the MuseumLab for FREE from 4:30–5:30 p.m. Conversation, activities, and pizza will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Learning Lab 1.

The evening will include:

    • conversation,
    • playful activities,
    • networking,
    • pizza, and
    • more!

Buzzword Talk & Play Series #6

Join Buzzword Pittsburgh on Wednesdays from November 6 to December 11 for Talk & Play Series 6! All events are free for learners ages five and under, with their caregivers, and will include activities that enhance vocabulary and literacy skills.  A light dinner will be provided.

Kindergarten: Here I Come!

At this annual event, children entering kindergarten experience a day full of fun and helpful resources, activities, and learning from Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh staff and their partners from around the city to help celebrate this amazing milestone and transition.

Activities

Visitors can look forward to:

    • free museum admission for one kindergarten student and one accompanying adult,
    • back-to-school giveaways, and
    • delicious snacks and treats.

Sensory Friendly Saturday: Museum of Natural History

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is celebrating National Autism Awareness month by hosting four Sensory Friendly Saturdays throughout the year.

About the Event

During Sensory Friendly Saturdays, the museum will open 90 minutes before it opens to the public to allow families with members of the autism spectrum or those who experience sensory overload to visit the museum in a more controlled environment. Museum experts will give tours of the exhibitions and be on hand to answer questions throughout the morning. Designated quiet zones will allow visitors to decompress and experience the museum at their own pace.

Sensory Friendly Saturday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
