Remake Learning Days to Offer Hundreds of Events in May

The Remake Learning Days Festival will offer more than 350 events – including Playful Pittsburgh’s Ultimate Play Day – in May. The three-week festival offers activities for children ages two to 17 as well as adults.

From May 2 to 22, families can take part in a variety of events and celebrate learning. Activities include building a robot, coding an art spinner, directing a film, doing scientific work, exploring the outdoors, making music, printing inventions with a 3-D printer, and more.

The festival will include in-person and virtual events hosted by schools, museums, libraries, after-school organizations, child care centers, and tech companies.

There are a number of free activities as well as others that range from $1 to $50. Most of the events take place in Southwestern Pennsylvania, while a few others will be held in West Virginia. 

Ultimate Play Day – which is co-hosted by Playful Pittsburgh, Trying Together, and CitiParks – will take place during Remake Learning Days. The event emphasizes the importance and power of play for people of all ages. The free event will be hosted at the Activities Shelter at Riverview Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

The festival will also include a performance of “Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster.” Color puppets and props will bring characters from Mo Willems’ book to life on stage.

How to Get to Ultimate Play Day on May 18

Playful Pittsburgh will host its annual Ultimate Play Day on Saturday, May 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Activities Shelter in Riverview Park. There are three bus routes that can drop participants off close to the event.

Ultimate Play Day is a celebration of playfulness for people of all ages. The event – co-hosted by Playful Pittsburgh, Trying Together, and Citiparks as part of Remake Learning Days – celebrates the importance of play. 

A number of city organizations will take part in the event – including the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Carnegie Science Center, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Fred Rogers Institute, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and many more. A complete list can be found on Ultimate Play Day’s event page.

Directions

Participants driving to the event and taking 279 N should avoid Milroy Street. Instead of making the first left, continue on to East Street and take Baytree Street to the park. 

Three bus routes will drop participants close to the event. Riders can take Bus 8 from the Northside to Riverview Park. They can pick up this bus at Cedar, East North Avenue, or Federal Street. The closest stops to the park are Perrysville and Watson or Perrysville and Cherryfield.

Riders can take Bus 12 from the Northside. The closest stop to the park is East Street and Venture Street, which is about a mile walk to the event. Riders can also take Bus 15 from Downtown.

Remake Learning Days Return to Southwest Pennsylvania

Remake Learning Days return to the southwestern PA region from May 4 – 23, 2023 with events for youth, families, grandparents, caregivers, and educators to explore creative and fun ways of learning!

About Remake Learning Days

Remake Learning Days Across America (RLDAA) is an innovative learning festival for families and youth. Taking root in regions across the world, thousands of hands-on and engaging events are designed for children of all ages at libraries, schools, tech centers, museums, play spaces, community centers, and more.

Children, families, caregivers, and educators can attend in-person and virtual events hosted by schools, museums, libraries, after-school organizations, child care centers, tech companies and more.

Explore creative and engaging events and celebrate joyful learning, whether you build a robot, code an art spinner, direct a film, be a scientist, explore the outdoors, make your own music, or print your invention with a 3-D printer.

Professional development sessions are also available for school, out-of-school, child care, and non-traditional educators.

The majority of events are free and open to kids of all ages.

Flex Space Summit

Flex Space Summit is a day full of exploration, innovation, and inspiration, bringing together teachers, architects, furniture designers, researchers, and more!

Saturday Night Light Brigade Live Audience Broadcast

Ultimate Play Day Coming May 15

In partnership with CitiParks and Trying Together, the Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative will be hosting its Ultimate Play Day on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 1- 4 p.m.

About Ultimate Play Day

The big event will take place at Liberty Green Park, located at 100 Larimer Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15206. This Remake Learning Days event includes fun for all ages – including games, activities, art projects, and live entertainment – and the opportunity to explore the possibilities of play in partnership with other organizations around Pittsburgh.

There’s no need to pre-register for this free event. Upon arrival, attendees should visit the registration table to pick up some Ultimate Play Day swag while supplies last. There also will be a water station set up in the park for attendees to fill up their water bottles.

Ultimate Play Day

For the sixth year, the Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative will celebrate Ultimate Play Day.

Each year the Collaborative provides this day of free, family-friendly activities at varying locations in the Pittsburgh area. This year, the Collaborative and its member organizations will hold the Ultimate Play Day on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at August Wilson Park, 1803 Cliff Street from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. as part of Remake Learning Days.

“We are so excited to bring the Ultimate Play Day to the Hill District community for our sixth anniversary. We have more than 20 providers signed on with more committing every week to provide hands-on play experiences,” said Sarah Siplak, Director of Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative.

The PPC is dedicated to advancing the importance of play in the lives of children, families, and communities in the Pittsburgh region and works to:

● Raise awareness that play is a critical element in the lives of people of all ages
● Educate decision-makers (from parents to legislators) in our region so that their choices
support access to play for all people
● Model (and inspire) through various activities the actions we hope our broader community will
take in their daily lives
