Remake Learning Days Return to Southwest Pennsylvania

Remake Learning Days return to the southwestern PA region from May 4 – 23, 2023 with events for youth, families, grandparents, caregivers, and educators to explore creative and fun ways of learning!

About Remake Learning Days

Remake Learning Days Across America (RLDAA) is an innovative learning festival for families and youth. Taking root in regions across the world, thousands of hands-on and engaging events are designed for children of all ages at libraries, schools, tech centers, museums, play spaces, community centers, and more.

Children, families, caregivers, and educators can attend in-person and virtual events hosted by schools, museums, libraries, after-school organizations, child care centers, tech companies and more.

Explore creative and engaging events and celebrate joyful learning, whether you build a robot, code an art spinner, direct a film, be a scientist, explore the outdoors, make your own music, or print your invention with a 3-D printer.

Professional development sessions are also available for school, out-of-school, child care, and non-traditional educators.

The majority of events are free and open to kids of all ages.

Youth Producers Meet-Up

Calling all songwriters, beatmakers, and mix engineers ages 14-22!

Come to the Youth Producers Meet-Up to share your tracks, hear how they sound in a professional studio, get feedback from peers and professionals, eat snacks, and meet other creative young music makers in Pittsburgh.

This event is FREE to attend.

Flex Space Summit

Flex Space Summit is a day full of exploration, innovation, and inspiration, bringing together teachers, architects, furniture designers, researchers, and more!

During this one-day conference, attendees will learn about reimagining learning spaces. This conference will be held at Allegheny Intermediate Unit (475 E Waterfront Drive, Homestead, PA. 15120).

This event is FREE to attend and is intended for adults. Registration is highly encouraged.

Saturday Night Light Brigade Live Audience Broadcast

Are you interested in learning more about the world of radio?

Join SLB Radio for a special live-audience broadcast of The Saturday Light Brigade!

Attendees will tour the SLB Youth Media Center, then join the live studio audience as SLB Radio welcomes live musical acts, hears from youth guests, plays word games, and much more!

This event is FREE to attend and open to all ages.

Queens Gambit will present Pop-up! Chess events across Pittsburgh every Saturday of Remake Learning Days! 

Those who attend can learn the game of chess, practice against instructors, or play with friends and family!

This event is FREE to participate in, and chess sets are provided!

Cookie Connections at The History Center

Visit the Heinz History Center on Sunday, May 7, for “Cookie Connections” to learn how cookies have connected people for centuries. Explore the region through past and present cookie recipes and stories, activities, and artifacts related to making and baking Pittsburgh history.

This event is for all ages. Event cost is included in museum admission.

Ultimate Play Day

Join us — Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative, Trying Together, Citiparks, and ZeroFossil — for Ultimate Play Day! 

Ultimate Play Day is a celebration of playfulness for people of all ages.

This annual event is an opportunity for people throughout the Pittsburgh region to play together and raise awareness of the benefits of play for all people—from birth to 199 years. Partner and community organizations offer play activities for all ages at a different venue each year.

Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative would like to send a special thank you to Remake Learning for providing a mini grant to The Collaborative for Ultimate Play Day.

Track and Treat 2022 presented by CitiParks

The Homewood Early Learning Hub & Family Center and Buzzword will be in attendance during this year’s Track and Treat event presented by CitiParks. This annual event will take place on Saturday, October 22 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Bud Harris Cycling Track.

Citiparks Track and Treat is a FREE, fun, seasonal event that promotes health and wellness, bike safety and more! Children and families can ride around the Bud Harris Cycling Track in their Halloween Costumes, participate in a costume contest, decorate pumpkins and enjoy seasonal enrichment and entertainment! Bring your bike or you can get one there!

Track or Treat

Join RADWorks and CitiParks for Track or Treat at the Bud Harris Cycling Track on Saturday October 23rd, 12 – 4 p.m. Children and families can come in their Halloween costumes and cycle around the Bud Harris Cycling Track, stopping to try healthy fall recipes, learn about bike safety from the Pittsburgh Police, decorate pumpkins and more!

KidSMART Club At Home Program

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Citiparks will offer its KidSMART Club as an at-home program for children in grades three, four, and five. An option for pre-kindergarten children is also available.

About

KidSMART Club is an afterschool program developed by Citiparks for children in grades three, four, and five. A pre-k option is also available and is best suited for children ages three to five years old. The program features a series of activities that explore science, math, art, reading, technology, and more! This year, the Club will be offered as an at-home program for 11 weeks with each week offering a new theme of learning.

Registration

Registration is required to participate. When registering, you must select a pickup location for your weekly at-home kits. Kit pickup will occur every Monday (beginning October 5) from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at one of the following Citipark Recreation Center locations:

To register, complete the KidSMART Club Registration Form. This registration reserves your kit for an 11-week period through the end of 2020. Space is limited.

Citiparks Offers Take-Home Literacy and Math Camp Program

From June 15 to July 24, Citiparks will be offering CitiCamp@Home, a six-week program for families that offers weekly take-home STEM/STEAM projects, games, giveaways, and chances to win prizes.

About

Families are invited to join Citiparks lead explorer Caterina as she guides explorers through summertime urban adventures! Through conveniently packaged To-Go Kits, families will gain access to everything they need to create great projects that include built-in literacy and math components.

Additional resources will be provided by WQED, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Carlow University Education Department, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, and UPMC Children’s Hospital.

Pick Up Locations

Kits will be available at the Citiparks Summer Grab & Go locations listed below starting Monday, June 15 on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you are not able to participate in the Summer Food program but would like to play along, printable materials will also be available on the Citiparks website.

Carnegie Library Serving Summer Meals for Children

Beginning June 17, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will offer free summer meals/snacks to Pittsburgh youth on weekdays through August 23.

About

In summer 2019, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will continue its participation in the Summer Food Service Program in order to ensure even more Pittsburgh youth have access to free food during summer vacation. Meals and activities will be provided during times listed below while supplies last and are for youth ages 18 and younger, and for persons with disabilities up to age 21.

Meals are being offered locally in collaboration with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Pittsburgh CitiParks as part of the federally funded Summer Food Service Program.

Pitch, Hit, and Run: Baseball & Softball

Citisports, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Major League Baseball, will host Pitch, Hit, and Run (PHR)—the Official Skills Competition of Major League Baseball.

About the Competition

This local competition will take place on May 4, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at McGibbney Field in Brookline Memorial Park. This competition is open to children ages 7 to 14.

Pitch, Hit and Run will then continue with the Sectional Competition on Saturday, May 18, 2019—10 a.m. to noon, again at McGibbney Field. Participants in PHR have the opportunity to advance all the way to the National Finals during MLB All-Star Week!

Citiparks’ Roving Art Car will also be at the field with baseball crafts for the kids beginning at noon.

Kick-Off Game

After the competition, teams will begin vying for the Mayor’s Cup Trophy with a kick-off game on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at noon. This season-opening game will feature the Pony AA Teams from Brookline and the 14th Ward. These two teams faced each other at the end of the 2018 Season in the Mayor’s Cup Championship at PNC Park with the 14th Ward coming out on top. This is going to be a great kick-off game for the 2019 Season!
