Centering Women in Economic Recovery Efforts

Join The Salon from January 25 – 29, 2021 for “Centering Women in Economic Recovery” to learn about the regional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women in the workforce.

About

Centering Women in Economic Recovery is a free five-day lunchtime series with regional female thought leaders from organizations with deep expertise in policy, business, community, public sector, and education. Each day at noon, panelists will explore the regional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women in the workforce and discuss the policies and actions needed to build a more female-forward infrastructure that supports equity for working women.

Centering Women in Economic Recovery

Centering Women in Economic Recovery is a free five-day lunchtime series that will run from Monday, January 25 to Friday, January 29, 2021. The series will feature regional female thought leaders from organizations with deep expertise in policy, business, community, public sector, and education. Join in for one or all five days!

About

Coined the She-cession, the economic fallout of Covid-19 has disproportionately affected women in key ways. Women are one-third more likely to work in a sector that was shut down during the lockdown, more likely to be furloughed, and 47 percent more likely to have lost or quit their jobs. And, women shoulder more child care responsibilities and household work than men.

Centering Women in Economic Recovery is a free 5-day lunchtime series with regional female thought leaders from organizations with deep expertise in policy, business, community, public sector, and education. These lunchtime sessions will explore the policies and actions needed to build a more female-forward infrastructure that supports equity for working women.

Fifth Annual Healthy Schools Summit

Are you interested in translating research into action to create green and healthy schools? Join Women for a Healthy Environment (WHE) on Thursday, December 3 for the Fifth Annual Healthy Schools Summit.

About

During this virtual conference, national, state, and local experts will tackle the following questions:

    • How are school stakeholders coming together to realize their shared goal for green, safe, and healthy schools for students and staff to return to?
    • How are school leaders translating public health research into action to prevent the spread of COVID-19?
    • What resources are available for educators, nurses, parents, and students to respond to existing and emerging school health needs?

Listen to Black Women: What’s it like to be a Black Woman in Pittsburgh?

Are you a Black woman in Pittsburgh who is interested in sharing your experiences with other Black women in Pittsburgh? Join the Black Women’s Policy Agenda on November 14 for “Listen to Black Women: What’s it like to be a Black Woman in Pittsburgh?

About

Fixing Pittsburgh’s problems starts with listening to Black women! That’s why the Black Women’s Policy Agenda has launched a survey and is facilitating a series of community conversations where Black women share their experiences with other Black women. This event is designed to elevate the voices and experiences of Black women in Pittsburgh. It’s the first step to building collective power among Black women, advocating for the needs of Black women, and advancing policy to achieve racial and gender justice in this region.

The Black Women’s Policy Agenda is conducting a survey to hear from 250 women in the Pittsburgh region to discover how they are dealing with the double crisis of COVID-19, anti-Black violence, and being a Black woman overall. To complete the survey, visit the Black Women’s Policy Agenda website.

Choosing Child Care | Virtual Workshop

Choosing high-quality child care is a complex process, and to many it may feel overwhelming right now. Join the Center for Women Pittsburgh, Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC) Region 5, and Trying Together on June 28 for their virtual workshop “Choosing Child Care.”

About

Through this virtual workshop, participants will:

    • learn about the CDC guidelines that early learning professionals are incorporating into their programs;
    • hear questions they can use to ask providers about sanitation and physical distancing;
    • see a live demonstration a new search tool for child care in Allegheny County;
    • get tips on the application process, as well as what you need to apply for assistance; and
    • know how they can help advocate for needed changes to the child care system.

Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Medical Clinic

Don’t let your child fall behind on their needed immunizations. Visit the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile to access vaccinations for children ages two months through high school, receive WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) form assistance, learn important health and safety information, and more.

About the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown are partnering to bring needed vaccines, safely, to western Pennsylvania communities through the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.

Appropriate physical distancing measures will be maintained. Please give yourself adequate time in case of a wait. Adults and children over age two are asked to arrive wearing a mask. A mask will be provided if you do not have one. Children must be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian.

Services Provided

The following services will be available:

    • vaccinations, ages two months through high school;
    • WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) form assistance;
    • health and safety information;
    • kindergarten registration information;
    • at-home activities for summertime; and
    • food and infant formula resources.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is scheduled at the following locations and times:

Always call the Care Mobile prior to coming to any clinic at 412.352.1059 or 412.352.1060 for updated information about any weather or mechanical difficulties. No appointment is necessary at most sites.

Community Baby Shower | West End/McKees Rocks

Beverly’s Birthdays, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit that provides birthday cheer for children experiencing homelessness and families in need, is hosting free community baby showers in 2020 for expecting women/partners who would benefit from services and resources. Attendees will receive lunch, play games, win prizes, receive a newborn care package, and connect with resource providers.

These events are designed for expecting parents or individuals caring for a newborn (0-3 months).
