Trying Together Raises Over $3,000 to Support the Work of Early Childhood in Highmark Walk

Fundraising for the 2023 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community closed last month, and Trying Together successfully trotted away with $3,205.

Walk dollars will aid Trying Together’s continued efforts to support the work of early childhood, children, child care professionals, and families.

Trying Together’s 2023 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community Campaign

To extend the reach of the Highmark Walk, Trying Together invited early learning programs to create walk teams on behalf of Trying Together, committing to donate 75% of funds raised by early learning programs back to them.

With provider participation, Trying Together developed six walk teams which collectively raised the $3,205 total—64% of the $5,000 goal. Team SMYL (Trying Together’s main team) raised the most funds at $1,320. Crafton Children’s Corner came just behind them with $1,000 raised. Here’s how the rest of the funds are broken down:

  1. Team SMYL – $1,320
  2. Crafton Children’s Corner – $1,000
  3. Presbyterian Day School – $275
  4. St. Paul’s Weekday Ministries – $160
  5. Dunkin’ Run – $85
  6. Thomas Child Care and Learning Academy – $25

Team success depended on the efforts of individual team members, and a few team members drove funds. Top participants included:

  1. Mary Merryman – $265
  2. Kristin Ash – $205
  3. Laura Pollick – $180
  4. Kendall Davis – $150
  5. Maria Snyder – $115

Because of the dedication of these individuals and many others, Trying Together can directly support participating child care programs and use remaining funds to further aid local children, families, and professionals. The entire organization offers a great many thanks to all of those who made and continue to make that possible.

Regional Participation & Impact

Through the 2023 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, Trying Together and 66 other organizations in the Pittsburgh region raised $309,653 for their missions, reaching 77% of their 400,000 goal.

Find a list of participating Pittsburgh organizations on the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community website.

Join Us In Celebrating #GivingTuesday

Join Trying Together, your neighbors, and the global community on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, in celebrating kindness, collaboration, and generosity. Join us in #GivingTogether this #GivingTuesday.

What Is GivingTuesday?

First established in 2012, GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. It’s also an opportunity for people to stand together in unity—to use their individual power of generosity to support and champion the organizations and causes they care about.

Why Should You Participate?

2020 has been a difficult year, and it has been especially difficult for our nation’s families. Due to job loss, financial strain, education challenges, and limited access to child care, families have been working tirelessly to make ends meet and support the learning and development of their children. However, they cannot do it alone.

That’s why Trying Together’s mission to reinforce the work of early childhood is more important than ever before. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trying Together has:

    • mobilized our advocates to ensure child care businesses receive the emergency funds they need to stay in business and provide services to families;
    • distributed critical health and safety supplies to early learning programs that serve essential workers and their families;
    • developed an online search tool to assist essential workers and families with quickly finding and choosing early learning programs that meet their needs;
    • created an online community for families to connect, discuss, and support one another in their care and education planning for the 2020-21 school year; and

During the COVID-19 pandemic and after, Trying Together will continue to develop our programs, resources, and services to meet the needs of our communities. Will you join us in this work by showing your support on GivingTuesday?

What You Can Do

We all have gifts to give, and thanks to social media, online giving, mail, and phones, there are limitless ways to use your generosity to reinforce the early childhood field. For examples of how you can give this giving season, see the list below!

Submit A Donation

If you would like to support Trying Together’s work directly, consider submitting a financial donation! We appreciate donations of any size. However, for those looking for recommended amounts, Trying Together has identified the following tiers:

    • Early Childhood Supporter ($60)
    • Early Childhood Sustainer ($120)
    • Early Childhood Champion ($1,000)

Thanks to the generosity of Trying Together’s Board of Directors, all donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2,000. Help us secure these matched dollars by donating!

Give Big Pittsburgh is an annual day-of-giving hosted by the Pittsburgh Magazine. With this year’s event happening on December 3, Give Big Pittsburgh is a great opportunity for stakeholders and community members to collaboratively raise funds for and learn more about nonprofits working in the Pittsburgh area. Donors can access their donation receipts online, making it easy to track and report your tax-deductible donations.

How You Can Participate:

Donating to Nonprofits

One of the primary ways to participate in #GivingTuesday is to do just that, give. Outside of a small platform fee, all of the money that is donated will go directly to the nonprofit.

Sharing Your Story

Trying Together believes that every person has a place in #GivingTuesday, and with that, we want to ensure that we’re fostering community and relationships during the experience. Because we are an early childhood nonprofit, Trying Together encourages community members to #GiveThanks to an early childhood educator or professional who impacted your life in a positive way. Use #GiveThanks or #GivingTogether on social media to share your story with others as well.

Everyone has a place in #GivingTuesday, and with that, it's important to foster community and relationships during the experience. Sharing kindness, a story, a financial donation. There are plenty of ways to give. #GiveBigPittsburgh #GivingTogetherClick To Tweet

Sharing Nonprofit Donation Pages

On the Give Big Pittsburgh website, there is an arrow button to share a fundraising page link with your network. Another way to give would simply be sharing this opportunity with others. We encourage individuals to interact with us and our pages, whether that’s through sharing our posts or contributing yourself!
